Andrology is a teaching of male reproductive organs, including their development, construction and function.
The male sex organs are also called the male genitals. It is divided into the outer (penis and scrotum) and internal sex organs (testicles, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, spray canals and prostate).
The medical field of andrology includes malformations, diseases and injuries of the male reproductive organs. This includes fertility of the male and its disorders, for example, erectile dysfunction (ED), or joint disorders that affect the androgens (male sex hormones). These include deliberate fertility problems in men, for example, through (surgical) sterilization (sterilization), castration (elimination of the testes) or drug contraception (still experimental). Also important is the hypofunction of the gonads (hypogonadism) in old age (more details in the magazine under testosterone replacement therapy and prostate cancer).
Occasionally, the term andrology is used only limited to the specialty of fertility disorders.
The field of andrology is due to historical reasons in the overlap between urology (doctrine of the urinary organs, more detailed urology) and dermatology (doctrine of the skin) of the latter includes above all the venereal diseases and changes in the hair (this is dependent on the sex hormones) ,
An andrologist is a doctor (specialist) for andrology ("men's doctor").
