Beauty surgeries are becoming increasingly popular in Germany. Especially in men. This was shown by the annual patient survey of the German Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (DGÄPC). Of the 3,400 male respondents, 17.5 percent said they had ever put themselves under the knife. In 2009, the share was about 9.6 percent.
"We observe a much greater social acceptance for men who deal with their appearance," says association member Olaf Kauder.
And if you ask yourself what makes the world of men most likely to operate, let me tell you: it's not the best piece. The most popular surgery is actually eyelid surgery. Around one in five patients had their bags or slops removed. In second place is the liposuction with 12 percent. Followed by the nose operation and a tightening of the abdominal wall.
Also in women, eyelid surgery is the most popular surgery. Thus, for the first time since the beginning of the survey, breast augmentation is no longer the most desired procedure. However, more women can operate on the breasts than five years ago. In second and third place were face lift and lip corrections.
For the survey, men and women between the ages of 18 and 80 provide information voluntarily. In the professional association physicians have joined together, who have completed a specialist training as an aesthetic plastic surgeon and opened their own practice.
