Not only celebrities and starlets make unpleasant stains disappear. Even in South Tyrol treatments are now widely used at the Beauty Doc. "Especially young people today speak openly about these interventions. In the past, one often had the feeling that the patients were hiding in secret and secretly in the office - not even the husbands knew anything, "laughs Philipp Agostini, cosmetic surgeon in Bolzano.
A recent survey conducted by the German Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery confirms this observation and also shows that younger women, in particular, increasingly visit plastic surgeons.
Plastic surgeons in Germany speak of the "generation selfie". Selfies and social media are in the opinion of cosmetic surgeons in many patients, a drive for a corresponding operation.
In South Tyrol the situation does not look different. "It can also be observed in South Tyrol that more and more younger women are using smaller treatments such as Botox or Filler," explains the well-known cosmetic surgeon Hanns Deetjen.
As early as the end of 20 or the beginning of 30, women book their first treatments with Botox. "Often, such treatments are even made prophylactic that no wrinkles form at all," says Hanns Deetjen.
The cosmetic surgeons believe that this change has something to do with the fact that the social acceptance of aesthetic treatments has increased. As a result of the fact that people in the mirror regard themselves more critically and self-portrayal in social media has increased, aesthetic treatments are no longer taboo. "22 years ago, when I started in South Tyrol, Botox was still in its infancy, something secret, almost wicked. In the meantime, however, Botox has arrived in quite broad sections of the population and is regarded as something natural, "says Deetjen.
In the meantime, it is no longer just women - regardless of whether they are young or middle-aged - who are looking for cosmetic surgeons. Men are also increasingly using the services of plastic surgeons. "From the manager to the employee - in South Tyrol more and more men come to us. It even comes the farmer with the blue apron and can quickly remove a few wrinkles. Only a few years ago, that would not have been possible, the men would not have dared to practice, "smiles Hanns Deetjen.
However, men book treatments other than women. "In men, there are fewer medical-cosmetic treatments but more surgical procedures such as eyelid surgery or the so-called male breast," explains Philipp Agostini.
Non- or minimally invasive treatments such as Botox or Filler are now taken for granted in South Tyrol. "Treatments such as Botox or Filler are no longer perceived as a medical procedure. These treatments are seen as the walk to the hairdresser or beautician - that sometimes goes during the lunch break, "says Hanns Deetjen. Since the effect is so beautiful, you do not want to give it up anymore. "It's similar to when you start dyeing your gray hair - you just do not want to miss the effect anymore," explains Deetjen.
Such treatments now account for about 44 percent of all plastic surgery in Germany. "You can also see a clear trend in South Tyrol," says Philipp Agostini.
Nevertheless, in South Tyrol, surgical interventions are also carried out. "We have performed 2,000 breast augmentations over the years. Liposuction and eyelid surgery are also very common," explains Hanns Deetjen.
The two plastic surgeons agree, however, that certain wishes must be questioned, especially by young girls. "Minors should not let anything change in Italy - even with the consent of their parents," explains Hanns Deetjen. This is also correct, emphasize the doctors. "There are sometimes young patients in front of me who think their nose is too wide. In front of me sits a pretty girl with a normal nose. In such cases you have to look for a conversation with the girl, as the girl would probably not like it even after a nasal correction."
