On 1 August he joined the Schwarzwald-Baar-Klinikum to succeed Steffen Baumeister, who settled in Villingen after seven years in the clinic. Of the twelve doctors and the nursing staff - "a great team" - he was warmly welcomed by the clinic operating at Donaueschingen, says Holger Bannasch.
Born in Waldshuter, he studied human medicine in Marburg and Freiburg and followed his discovered inclination to anatomy and dissection. In his doctoral thesis, he devoted himself to tissue replacement research and its transfer to the hospital bed. He has been a specialist in plastic surgery since 2004, was co-founder of the private Freiburg Erich-Lexer-Clinic for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery and in 2006 acquired the additional name Hand Surgeon.
Since 2010, he has been Senior Physician at the University Hospital and, since 2011, Section Head for Plastic-reconstructive Tumor Surgery. In 2014, he was given the management of the Sakomzentrum in the Freiburg Tumor Center, which takes on surface damage after soft tissue tumors.
He was tempted by his new task to be able to shape his own processes and make personal decisions in a home health care facility of the highest standard. And this at a clinics with the best reputation and a large catchment area. Among other things, the Schwarzwald-Baar-Klinikum is one of only ten clinics in Germany that have been approved by the German Employers' Liability Insurance Association (Berufsgenossenschaft) for participation in the hand injury procedure (SAV Hand). His predecessor successfully extended the original focus of hand surgery with complete readiness for implantation to plastic surgery. Holger Bannasch intends to continue this process in an interdisciplinary manner, announces his presence at the main location and also wants to get the aesthetic surgery out of the "dirty corner". "I will also offer classic cosmetic surgery," says the 48-year-old, emphasizing that aesthetics should always be functional as well. From his perspective, the director's post is a "lifetime position," he assures. "I do not find a branch so attractive".
The range of services of the Clinic for Hand, Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery includes hand surgery (replantation, complicated fractures of the wrist), plastic surgery (restoration of soft tissue defects, treatment of chronic wounds and body tightening after heavy weight loss), breast surgery (reconstruction of female Breast after cancer, reduction in physical discomfort, balance of congenital malformations), tumor surgery (after skin or soft tissue tumors) and aesthetic surgery.
