About Prof. MD M. Schwarzbach
Medical Expertise, individual care and support of the highest quality. Patients are in the right hands at Klinikum Frankfurt Höchst. The Clinic is sponsored by the Frankfurt am Main municipality and provides the highest level of medical and nursing care (maximum care standard).
20 specialised departments with approximately 1,000 beds, including the interdisciplinary intensive therapy ward as well as the intensive care ward for neonatology, are available to provide optimum medical care. Approximately 36,000 in-patients and 80,000 out-patients from a large catchment area are treated here annually.
The Clinic for Surgery, with its various specialisations, carries out all surgical procedures within the entire range of surgery.
Due to HDTV video laparoscopy, an inpatient DAS facility for endovascular procedures and preparation instruments, technology levels at the Clinic for Surgery correspond to the latest generation of state-of-the-art equipment. Furthermore, a laser for lung and liver surgery, as well as a heart-lung machine are available for isolated limb perfusion (HIPEC).
The individual divisions are managed by highly qualified doctors and their teams. The highly specialised departments are also available outside of regular working hours, since, in addition to the standby service, a corresponding qualified on-call service for visceral surgery, vascular surgery and thoracic surgery is also available. The Clinic has its own intermediate care area (IMC), a surgical intensive care ward and a surgical endoscopy unit, that work closely together with the Clinic for Anaesthesia as well as the Gastroenterological Clinic. A total of 82 in-patient beds are available for patients on four different wards.
The Clinic for Surgery was successfully certified as a competence centre for surgical coloproctology, a competence centre for surgical diseases of the pancreas as well as a competence centre for surgical diseases of the liver by the Germany Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DAGV). Moreover, the Clinic is run as an associated GISG Sarcoma Centre. The certifications are audited and renewed on a regular basis. The Clinic is continuously involved in the Tumour Conference which is organised by the Tumour Centre Frankfurt Höchst. A private ward on the 12th and 13th floors, with a panoramic view of Frankfurt, is available to accommodate privately insured patients.
The Centre for Thoracic Surgery specialises in the diagnostics and surgical treatment of lung diseases, diseases of the thorax as well as the mediastinum. In cooperation with our colleagues from the department for pulmonology, we have all modern diagnostic and interventional methods at our disposal. We provide the entire range of thoracic surgery and, in particular, we use minimally invasive surgery, lung parenchyma-saving bronchoplastic procedures (“cuff resections”) and special laser surgery.
A particular focus area is the treatment of lung cancer and lung metastases (oncological surgery), which is provided by means of an interdisciplinary concept together with specialists from the fields of pulmonology and oncology. We apply VATS lobectomies for the treatment of bronchial carcinomas – a minimally invasive surgical method. Furthermore, we also use surgical lasers (diode lasers), which are specifically used during metastatic surgery. By means of a laser, we are able to provide an extremely tissue-conserving surgical technique.
