About Prof. MD M. Rogi

When, at the end of my time as a regular doctor at the Elisabethinen Hospital in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, I had to decide which specialty I wanted to take, I was faced with the choice between general medicine or surgery. I could very well imagine a future for myself as a classic country doctor with close contact with patients, because I have always been interested not only in people's health or illness but also in their life story, which is often related to it.

On the other hand, I was also fascinated by the surgery and the possibilities to cure seriously ill patients through sophisticated surgical interventions or at least to improve their quality of life. Ultimately, I decided to train as a specialist in surgery and visceral surgery. This was followed for many years as a senior physician at the Vienna General Hospital and as a primary physician at the Barmherzigen Brüder KH in St. Veit / Glan and at the Barmherzigen Brüder KH in Vienna.

My special surgical interest has always been in the implementation of minimally invasive surgery ("surgery of small incisions"), especially in the area of tumor surgery in colon cancer patients, in order to keep the stress on the patient as low, uncomplicated and painless as possible during and after the operation . Gall bladder, hernia and thyroid surgery were another focus in this context. During this time I became aware of how crucial the area of preventive medicine, especially colon cancer screening, is and how many of my patients could have been spared the diagnosis of colon cancer. In my ordination, the screening colonoscopy therefore has a particularly important place.

In everyday hospital life, between gastroscopy and colonoscopy in the outpatient department and time-consuming operations, there is often hardly any time for a long conversation with the patient. Everyone knows the patient's disease, but hardly anyone knows the patient. It is only by working in my ordination that I can realize my longstanding idea of being a doctor. I can devote myself to the health / prevention or illness of my patients AND the people behind them in a balanced manner in order to give them the best possible medical advice, support and guidance.

Many people, having learned that surgery is necessary, experience fear. From my many years of experience as a surgeon, I know how important it is for the success of an operation to devote sufficient time to the patient before and after the intervention and answer all questions.

Since I am your private surgeon, I give you time. It is very important for me to tell you in detail about the diagnosis and treatment before the operation and discuss your experiences in order to achieve a result that is optimal for both parties. Permanent personal departure from the first consultation in my office, including the operation itself and a daily tour, until the last examination. I operate on my patients in the private clinic Goldenes Kreuz, 1090 Lazaretgasse or in the private clinic Wiener, 1090 Vienna, Pelicangasse.

My main task

My main task as a specialist in surgery and abdominal surgery covers:

  • gallbladder surgery
  • hernia surgery (inguinal hernia, abdominal hernia)
  • reflux surgery(esophageal hernia)
  • bowel cancer

You can be sure that you are transferring your health to an experienced surgeon, as I have several thousand abdominal operations behind me!

Operational surgical equipment

In addition to using the latest surgical techniques, the implementation of the concept of the so-called "operative surgery" has been and remains particularly important. The purpose of this concept is to minimize complications during surgery. It was shown that this can be achieved using minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery and rapid rehabilitation of the patient with a quick restoration of a normal diet. Whenever possible, laparoscopic surgical techniques are used. Only very small incisions are made, with the help of which special instruments (the so-called trocars) can be inserted into the abdominal cavity to perform the operation, looking at the monitor.
