About Prof. MD U. Bolder
Welcome to the website of Obesity Center Dortmund. Obesity is currently one of the greatest challenges in medicine, because according to figures from the Robert Koch Institute, one in four Germans is severely overweight or obese. We at St. John's Hospital work on the basis of modern and proven effective therapy concepts that help us combat obesity. Take the first step: Come to us. We will help you - competent, individual, empathetic.
We know the despair of our patients and assure you: There are ways out of obesity. We rely on a cross-disciplinary approach for our patients. This includes not only the surgery, but also nutritional counseling, exercise therapy and behavioral modification.
For our patients we want to: reduce weight, sustainably improve nutritional behavior, increase general fitness and self-esteem.

Since the mid-1950s, it has been known that surgical measures can bring about long-term, long-term weight loss. With the decrease in body weight often go the comorbidities of obesity. This has been observed, for example, for diabetes mellitus following gastric bypass surgery.
Basically, all surgical procedures aim to help patients absorb less food and thereby lose weight. A distinction is made between restrictive and malabsorptive methods and a mixed type of both surgical methods. The principle of restrictive surgical procedures is the narrowing of the feed path, which prohibits the rapid intake of large amounts of food. In malabsorptive procedures, on the other hand, the functional shortening of the small intestine reduces the intake of food.
In our Obesity Center we perform the following surgical procedures:
