The team around Dr. Henning Quitmann, chief physician of the Fabricius Clinic and specialist in orthopedics and traumatology, can look forward to: Yesterday, the clinic was named "Center of Excellence" - the first center in Germany. Dirk Windgassen from the company MicroPort, developer of the instruments and manufacturers of the prostheses required for the procedure, presented the certificate to Dr. Ing. Quitmann is representative of his team, which belongs to the Bergisch Land joint center.
This works in the Fabricius clinic for about two years in addition to the conventional surgical method with the so-called super-path method. "In this new, extremely gentle minimally invasive access technique, no muscles and tendons are severed, but only kept aside. The joint capsule is retained. It is very important for the stabilization of the hip joint, "explains the specialist. The blood loss is low. Patients have less pain after surgery with the new technique and are faster mobile again. Patients could also skip the posts more quickly, because the tissue is less burdened by the small incisions and the soft tissue damage is minimal. "Just one day after the operation, patients can fully recharge their hips and walk." So far, this technique has only been used at a few specialized centers.
Around 700 hip and knee joint surgeries are performed each year in the Fabricius Clinic. With the Super Path method, which comes from the US and England, so far about 300 patients have been treated. "This is a technique that you have to learn. It's not enough just to have a look at it, "says Quitmann. The Fabricius Clinic has now become a training center for other physicians.
