Two German companies are launching clip-on veneers made of copolymer that users should be able to wear full-time. Food and drink are with the Hollywood smile for 900 euros no problem, so the advertising promise of the manufacturer.
The history: In 2009, the US dental company "DenMat" introduced plastic-veneers with the product "Snap-on Smile". At that time, this was a "cheaper alternative to improve the smile," it says on the manufacturer's website, fittingly "to the economic downturn" of the financial crisis. How many plastic Veeners have since been sold thanks to TV advertising and recommendations from US dentists, in which countries Snap-on Smile is available today and whether there are cooperations with the two German companies Smile me up and K Line Europe, remains unclear. Repeated requests to DenMat remained unanswered.
An internet research shows that there are also dentists in Germany offering Snap-on Smile. Like Dr. Thorsten Hüttermann from Oberhausen, who according to his own statements - as an interim prosthesis or medium-term cosmetic solution - supplied about 100 patients with it. For continuous use, the product is not designed, he explains, depending on the care amount to six to 24 months. He sees no risks for the hard tooth substance and the gingiva, with perfect gingival marginal closure and with optimal and regular cleaning, there would be no restrictions on the maximum wearing time per day, so the opinion of the practitioner. However, he rejects the practice of the two German suppliers who create plastic veneers on the basis of dental impressions, which the customers themselves have taken.
