About Univ. Prof. MD T. Schmid
As a deputy head of the Department of Surgery in Innsbruck for many years, I have extensive experience in the treatment of surgical diseases, both in the abdomen and the chest.
In my practice, diagnostics and the detailed conversation with my patients in a relaxed, private atmosphere is my main concern. I consider getting to know each other before any intervention - both for the patient and for the doctor - is extremely important. Here questions can be discussed in peace and fears (often unfounded) before the operation can be reduced. The admission in the clinic or in the sanatorium is then usually much less stressful, because the patient knows what to expect and already knows his doctor.
The development of minimally invasive surgery (so-called buttonhole surgery) has accompanied and influenced my surgical career. Some of these operations were introduced by me in Innsbruck. This applies to laparoscopic inguinal and incisional hernia surgery as well as to buttonhole procedures on the lungs and abdomen.
For years, I have been leading the Hernia Surgery and Thoracic Surgery working groups at the University Department of Surgery and conducting surgical courses for surgeons from all over Europe.
