About Prof. MD J. Mall
In the introduction, we would like to give you some background information on obesity (morbid obesity) and the surgical treatment thereof. In our surgical clinic at KRH Klinikum Nordstadt we have been treating this serious illness for many years.
Worldwide, the incidence of morbid obesity is increasing. Particularly in the so-called industrialized countries, but also in the emerging economies, there has been a near epidemic-like increase in the proportion of the population with obesity in recent decades. According to surveys, approximately 23 percent of adult men and 24 percent of adult women are currently considered overweight in Germany alone. According to the Federal Statistical Office more than one million people in the Federal Republic of Germany have a so-called body mass index (BMI, ratio of body weight to height in meters squared) of 40 kg / m² and more. Obesity has become a widespread disease in industrialized countries.
Our clinic has many years of experience in minimally invasive surgery (keyhole surgery) and bariatric surgery (obesity surgery). Through regular internal training as well as the participation and participation in national and international congresses and training workshops, we ensure that our operative techniques and recommendations correspond to the current state of the currently recognized scientific knowledge. We also participate in scientific work and studies to gain important insights for the future.
Prof. Mall was born in Homburg / Saar. As a schoolboy, he moved with the family to Hanover because his father moved to the Heidehaus lung clinic as chief physician. Mall studied medicine in Budapest, Berlin and Chicago. Prof. MD Julian W. Mall is Chief Physician of the Clinic for General, Visceral, Vascular and. Bariatric surgery at KRH Klinikum Nordstadt. Prof. Mall has been working for KRH since 2007. Previously he was senior physician at the Charité, where he habilitated in 2003.
His areas of expertise include oncological visceral surgery, minimally invasive surgery, oesophageal surgery, morbid obesity surgery, and angiogenesis research aimed at slowing the growth of blood vessels in tumors.
Mall has published more than 70 times in scientific journals as a first or co-author, has given more than 150 lectures and has written numerous articles in textbooks. He is a regular examiner at the Ärztekammer Niedersachsen (ÄKN) and also a member of the Living Donation Commission.
As part of his APL professorship Mall will hold lectures at the MHH in the field of surgery.
