About Prof. MD E. Winter

Welcome to the orthopedic department of the Clinic of Friedrichshafen!

The Department of Orthopedics led by an experienced orthopaedic surgeon Prof. E. Winter, deals with the treatment of orthopaedical disorders and traumas. Our department also performs joint replacement and is a leading German orthopedic institution which performs the minimally invasive joint surgeries with computer navigation. Endoprothesis replacement at the Friedrichshafen Clinic is performed at the highest technological level of modern orthopedic medicine. Annually, over 20,000 out-patients and over 3,000 in-patients are treated in the orthopaedic unit of our clinic in Friedrichshafen, Germany. We perform over 3,000 joint replacements annually, including knee-, hip-, and shoulder replacement.

Modern innovations in joint replacement

In the McMinn method, only the diseased surfaces of the joint are removed. In McMinn’s Birmingham hip resurfacing method, the damaged femoral head is crowned with a new surface much like a dental crown, unlike in a standard total hip replacement, where the femoral head and neck are removed. This makes the Birmingham hip resurfacing method bone-saving compared to standard hip replacement surgery.

The classical surgical procedures performed in the orthopaedic unit of our clinic in Germany are supported by the latest orthopaedic materials, some of which stem from burn medicine. In the case of permanent implants in orthopaedics and other areas of medicine, we only work with accredited suppliers.
