The Radetzky Villa

Our clinic is situated in Vienna’s highly desirable 19th district. It is located next to a small park in the small town of Grinzing, which is known for its traditional houses and picturesque atmosphere.

The Radetzky Schlössl in Grinzing is the former house of Joseph Radetzky (1766-1858), who was the Fieldmarschalk of the Austrian army in the early half of the 19th century. His fame was immortalised by Johan Strauss sr, who composed the Radetzkymars in 1848.

The surgical team at the Radetzky villa consists of four dedicated Plastic Surgeons, who all have a reputation of persistently achieving high quality care in this field of surgery.

All of them have trained in respectable International institutes of Plastic Surgery and have gained extensive experience in a wide variety of settings. Their surgical skills are being supported by a paramedical team, that is committed to provide you with the best possible care and with the personal attention you deserve.

General reconstructive surgery

Next to aesthetic surgery, reconstructive surgery is an important part of plastic surgery. The aim is to restore shape and function of different parts of the body that either have not been formed (congenital) or have been lost due to accidents of cancer. The cosmetic aspect of reconstructive surgery is quite important, since all that is recreated should function in real life to achieve social reintegration in society.

Breast reconstruction

For partial or total breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery, implants or autologous tissue can be used. Due to the extensive experience of our surgeons all kinds of breast reconstructions are available. If an Expander/Implant reconstruction, reconstruction using acellular dermal matrices or a microsurgical autologous reconstruction is the best individual solution for you, will be discussed in a detailed preoperative explanation of advantages and disadvantages.

Cleft surgery

When a baby is born with a facial cleft, it has a huge functional (eating, breathing, speaking) and aesthetic (for instance social acceptance) impact. In some countries it is seen as a bad omen, where “the gods must have cursed the family in which such a child is born”. Also in our western society, children with a cleft have to fight for recognition and against prejudice.

As clefts are treated according protocols that follow the growth process, different procedures are done at different ages. Over the last 15 years Dr van der Meulen has been intensively involved in treating these children, as a member of the cleft team of one of the largest children’s hospitals in Europe. He travels to Asia regularly on humanitarian missions, treating these kids for free.

In the Radetzky villa dr van der Meulen mainly corrects deformities in children previously operated somewhere else. He is specialised in correcting the nose and the lip in young adults.
